5 clues that your jaw pain is caused by unhappy muscles
Hint: Jaw therapy sessions work on all of these spots.
Trigger points feel like a knot in our tissues and they kind of are. They’re an area where the tissues in the muscles and fascia have grouped together and haven’t been able to release or unwind. This means that blood and oxygen are restricted from moving through those fibres and the area feels tight and often sore.
Trigger points refer pain to another area in the body - sometimes close by and sometimes quite distant from the Trigger Point. In the diagrams below, the Trigger Points are identified by an ‘X’ and the areas they can shoot pain to are shaded in red.
You might recognise some of your own pain patterns here - and why you have jaw pain that spreads to the ears, behind the eyes and across the forehead.
Releasing these Trigger Points are a big part of jaw therapy sessions and can bring immediate and lasting relief.
